CHICAGO BEARS PLAY THE 49ERS SUNDAY DEC. 3, 2017 12PM-3PM AT SOLDIER FIELD
Arlington Heights native Jimmy Garoppolo probably won’t start against the Arizona Cardinals this week, but might play against the Giants on Nov. 12, or study the playbook for two weeks with a bye the following week, and play Nov. 26 against the mighty Seahawks.
The 0-8 SF49ers offense currently doesn’t offer much support for their new quarterback. The strength of the 49er’s offense was their offensive tackles, but Joe Staley is out with a fractured orbital bone, and Trent Brown missed last Sunday with a concussion. The 49ers’ top receiver, Pierre Garcon, is out with an injured neck after colliding with Eagles coach Ken Flajole last Sunday.
San Francisco’s General Manager John Lynch called the move “a big win” for the 49ers, and added, “Jimmy is a player we have researched extensively since Kyle (Coach Kyle Shanahan) and I joined the 49ers.
Garoppolo has played in 17 games with two starts in four seasons in New England. He threw five touchdown passes, zero interceptions, and completed 63 of 94 pass attempts, and as Lynch recognized, “He has had the rare opportunity to sit and learn from a future hall of fame quarterback in a championship atmosphere.
