Lake Zurich police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:06 PM Saturday October 14, 2017 to a report of a chimney struck by lightning with falling objects from the chimney injuring a man at the house, 3 Newhaven Drive Hawthorn Woods, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a man was injured by a falling chimney after the chimney was struck by lightning. The man was reported to be conscious and walking on his own. [UPDATE: Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue later reported there were no injuries at the fire scene.]
There was heavy rain an lightning and thunder in the area at the time of the house fire.
The first fire crew on arrival reported fire showing from the rear of the house with an attic fire.
Engine 321’s exterior attack with water on the fire.
A second hose line was led out inside the house with Engine 322’s crew while checking for extension of the exterior fire into the house.
Long Grove’s tanker crew was delayed by a train.
Battalion Chief 32 reported the fire was knocked by 7:20 PM.
Ladder Tower 341 assigned to raise the main for inspection of the roof and overhaul, although probably not needed for fire suppression.
Battalion Chief 32 reported the fire is in the overhaul phase by 7:32 p.m.
