A bank robbery suspect was involved in a pursuit with Lake County Sheriff’s deputies that turned to a safe-distance tracking of the suspect on I-94 and I-294 Tuesday afternoon.
Law enforcement authorities released the identity of the bank robbery suspect on Wednesday, the day after he crashed on the Tri-State Tollway attempting to flee from police.
Alan H. Vasquez, 46, a resident in the block of 3200 West Arthington Street, was identified as the bank robbery suspect connected to the robbery of the Associated Bank, 34354 US-45, Third Lake, Illinois about 3:12 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
Police said Alan H. Vasquez robbed the Associated Bank about 3:12 p.m. Tuesday then fled in a white Nissan Altima. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the suspect’s car on Peterson Road and Route 45 in Libertyville and attempted a traffic stop. Vasquez drove on several side streets, before heading north, then eastbound onto Route 120 to eastbound (southbound Interstate 94). Speeds on eastbound Route 120 were about 60 MPH. The pursuit passed Route 21 at about 3:30 p.m. and entered the eastbound (southbound) ramp to I-94 from Route 120 about 3:32 p.m. The pursuit was terminated by the Lake County Sheriff deputy in command about 3:33 p.m., before the suspect entered Cook County on eastbound (southbound I-94). All police flashing lights were shut down by 3:34 p.m.
Detectives in unmarked squad cars continued to watch the Nissan and follow from a safe distance. The vehicles were passing Route 60 about 70 MPH on southbound I-94 about 3:36 p.m.
The police vehicles and suspect’s vehicle passed Deerfield Road and approached Lake Cook Road about 3:41 p.m. — still eastbound (southbound) on I-94.
When suspect Vasquez merged his Nissan Altima onto I-294 at about 3:42 p.m., he then traveled the off ramp at Willow Road near Glenview. He then struck a Pontiac Grand Am passenger vehicle while attempting to elude Illinois State Police troopers that were in the area.
Vasquez was arrested shortly after his car struck a Pontiac Grand Am near the Willow Road toll plaza at 3:46 p.m.
The driver and passenger in the Pontiac Grand Am were transported with non-life-threatening injuries to Glenbrook Hospital (not confirmed).
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies discovered evidence from the bank robbery that was located in Vasquez’s possession.
Lake County authorities charged Vasquez with misdemeanor fleeing and eluding and driving with a revoked driver’s license, and several other traffic violations.
Lake County Sheriff’s deputies transferred custody of bank robbery suspect Alan H. Vasquez to FBI agents.
