Aldi on Golf Road next to Valli Produce on the south side of Arlington Heights will be remodeling inside and refreshing its exterior look with a new facade and larger signs. The inside of the store will be remodeled with fresh paint, signage emphasizing fresh food, modern styling and graphics, expanded non-glare darkened ceilings, natural lighting, and environmentally-friendly building materials.
The Aldi store at 550 E. Golf Road plans to build a small addition on the front southeast corner that will include two new 75-square-foot Aldi signs, replacing the existing 50-square-foot signs. The news signs will include six decorative backlit logos — two images each of spinach leaves, apples and wineglasses.
The village board recently approved variations for the new signage, while proclaiming the amount of signage is significantly larger than other stores of similar size.
Aldi officials responded, saying the signs are reasonable because of the building size and the setback from the street. Aldi officials also said the signs are prototypical of the store’s national brand, which is being updated in the United States at stores during the next three years.
Aldi has only one store in Arlington Heights, but has two stores very close to the border with Arlington Heights — one at the southwest corner of Rand Road and Thomas Street in Prospect Heights, and one at Arlington Heights Road and Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove.
