A female police officer was ambushed, shot in the face in Yonkers.
Yonkers Police Officer Kayla Maher, a two-year veteran, was hit in the jaw by a shot from an AK-47 near the corner of Rumsey Road and Park Hill Avenue about 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2017.
Maher was alert and talking as she was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in The Bronx. She was listed in serious, but stable condition.
Two suspects connected to the semi-automatic rifle weapon that shot the police officer are in custody, and the police officer is expected to survive.
Police were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle with music blaring from the car, when two male suspects shot at police. Police returned fire, and police arrested the two suspects while one of the suspects was injured.
