McHenry Township Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday September 27, 2017 to the block of 5400 West Flanders Road near McHenry to a report a serious crash of a pickup truck into a tree.
When McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and McHenry Township FPD firefighter/paramedics arrived, they found a 61-year-old Lake Villa man unresponsive in the truck with severe driver’s side damage. The driver was wearing his seatbelt, but the airbags did not deploy, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
A Flight for Life helicopter was not available. The victim was transported by firefighter/paramedics to Centegra Hospital – McHenry, where he was pronounced dead.
An initial investigation shows that the yellow 2004 Dodge Ram was moving eastbound on Flanders Road when the pickup left the roadway twice before hitting the tree.
West Flanders Road from North Ringwood Road to just west of North Spojnia Road was closed during the investigation.
Initially no other vehicles were known to be involved in the crash or the cause of the crash. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.
