As the battle over DACA continues, Dreamers shut down a news conference by Nancy Pelosi; and Tucker Carlson interviews Iván Ceja, Executive Director & Co-Founder of undocumedia — an immigrant activist website and organization.
Groups of protesters are upset that Democrats recently met with President Donald J. Trump. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was interrupted by a group of protesters, including some undocumented immigrants, while speaking in San Francisco about the DREAM Act on Monday September 19, 2017.
The protesters carried a large banner and chanted: “We undocumented youth demand a clean bill … We undocumented youth demand that you do not sell out our community and our values … We undocumented youth will not be a bargaining chip for Trump.”
Protesters also chanted “Liar, liar, liar” when cued by an activist leader.
Pelosi and fellow congressional Democrats met with Trump to try to strike a deal with the President on the DACA program after Trump announced it would be terminated after a six-month window for Congress to pass legislation to potentially save it.
DACA (The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was rescinded by the Trump administration in September 2017. The immigration policy allowed some individuals who entered the country illegally as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible apply for a work permit. Approximately 800,000 individuals—referred to as Dreamers after the DREAM Act bill—were enrolled in the program created by DACA. The policy was established by the Obama administration in June 2012.
