A Hawthorn Woods police officer discovered a patio deck fire about 12:59 a.m. Friday September 29, 2017 at Heather Lane and Quentin Road and alerted residents to evacuate the house. The house was evacuated by 1:02 a.m.
Lake Zurich firefighters were on scene by 1:04 a.m. and Engine 323’s crew reported fire showing from the left rear side of the house on Heather Lane — a single-story wood frame, single-family residence.
Firefighters had water on the fire by 1:08 a.m. and Engine 323’s reported the fire was contained to the deck and believed to be extinguished by 1:10 a.m.
Four family members and the family’s dog were evacuated safely, and no injuries were initially reported.
Fire damage is estimated at approximately $2,000, according to fire officials. The fire was caused by discarded smoking materials.
