Death of 3-Year-Old Boy in Elk Grove on Perrie Drive Ruled a Homicide

Elk Grove Village police received a call at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday September 13, 2017 from the Cook County Medical Examiner about the death of a 3-year-old Elk Grove Village boy, which was ruled a homicide.

An autopsy performed by the Cook County Medical Examiner Thursday determined Steven Figueroa died of blunt abdominal trauma from an assault.

Steven, who lived and was assaulted in the block of 900 Perrie Drive in Elk Grove Village, was pronounced dead at 10:27 am. Wednesday at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police are questioning an Elk Grove Village resident and relative about the fatal beating of the 3-year-old boy. Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics were not aware of any trouble related to the victim, prior to the homicide. Police and firefighter/paramedics were not called before the victim reached the hospital.

The boy was unresponsive and not breathing when he was brought to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 10:27 a.m.

As of Friday morning, the relative had not been charged with a crime
