McHenry Fire and Rescue and McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 11:48 p.m. Saturday September 16, 2017 to a report of a single-vehicle crash near 1402 Lily Lake Road near Moraine Hills State and Lakemoor.
When rescuers arrived, they found two men dead at the scene involving a 2001 Ford Explorer crashed into a tree.
One of the men — a rear seat passenger — had been ejected from the Ford Explorer during the crash. The body of the driver required extrication from the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead about 12:05 a.m., according to McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne Majewski.
A third male passenger, seated in the front passenger seat during the crash, was transported to Centegra Hospital-McHenry with injuries that were not initially believed to be life-threatening. He was listed in stable condition at the hospital.
The front seat passenger and driver were wearing seat belts but the rear passenger was not.
The identities of the two men killed were initially withheld pending notification of family members.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are investigating the fatal crash.
