Kohl’s announced Wednesday September 6, 2017 that it will open up Amazon shops in 10 of its stores, including some in the Chicago area, making it the latest department store operator to make a deal with the e-commerce giant.
Kohl’s shoppers will be able to buy Amazon Echos, Fire tablets and other gadgets from Amazon shops, which will take up a 1,000-square-foot space inside the Kohl’s stores. Customers will also be able to request a home installation by and Amazon employee.
Kohl’s Corp. said the Amazon shops will open in October 2017 in Chicago and Los Angeles area stores. The company did not announce which stores were selected.
The Amazon/Kohl’s deal comes a few months after Sears agreed to sell its Kenmore appliances on Amazon.com. So far Amazon has 11 brick and mortar bookstores — opened in the last two years. Amazon officially merged with Whole Foods Monday, August 28, 2017 — immediately selling the Amazon Echo voice assistant device inside Whole Foods stores.
Kohl’s, with headquarters in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, has more than 1,100 nationwide.
Amazon Echos, Amazon Fire Tablets, Amazon Fire TV Sticks, and Amazon Kindles have already been available a long time in Best Buy stores — including the Best Buy store in Arlington Heights.
