Naperville police responded* about 1:53 p.m. or 6:53 p.m. to a report of a suspicious package in the block of 400 Fairway Drive. Naperville police tweeted at 8:11 p.m. that they were investigating a “suspicious incident” at the Route 59 train station. Police reported that traffic was affected and trains were stopped.
The train station is located at 1090 North Route 59, Aurora, IL.
At 8:14 p.m. police tweeted , “There is no threat to the general public and residents are asked to stay out of the area”.
At 10:00 p.m. police tweeted that “Police have secured the area of the Rt 59 train station. A suspicious package was investigated and found to be innocuous. Traffic may resume”.
Witnesses reported a small explosion was heard about 9:34 p.m. coming from the parking lot closest to the depot’s platform.
Roads were re-opened to vehicle traffic, and trains were moving again by 9:42 p.m.

A Naper Notify system alert sent to residents at about 8:09 p.m. stated, “The Naperville Police Department is investigating a suspicious incident at the Route 59 Metra station.” The bulletin did not indicate any nature of the incident, but advised residents to stay away from the area.
Naperville police and members of the DuPage County Hazardous Devices Unit responded to the “suspicious incident”.
Witnesses saw a DuPage County Sheriff’s Hazardous Devices Unit truck arrive at the train station at about 9:20 p.m.
Vehicle traffic was blocked on Fairway Drive, south of North Aurora Road. Fairway Drive provides access to the train station lots on the north side of the railroad tracks. In addition to Metra BNSF Line trains, the railroad tracks are used by Amtrak and Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway freight trains.
Naperville police did not respond to inquiries at the scene or from the media relations office.
