McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Wonder Lake FPD firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:37 a.m. Saturday July 22, 2017 near the intersection of East Wonder Lake Road and Route 120 to a report of a rollover crash with one injured patient and arcing lines down on the roadway. ComEd was immediately requested to the scene.
A McHenry County deputy first on the scene reported entrapment of the patient in the vehicle.
First fire personnel (Unit 1602) on scene reported a vehicle off into the field with heavy damage. A pole was snapped off with all lines down and active with fire. ComEd was requested to expedite to the scene because the vehicle and patient was not accessible until electric power was shut down at the scene.
During extrication, Flight for Life was put on standby for the male patient that was conscious at about 6:00 a.m. At the initial request Flight for Life was not available due to weather. Wonder Lake FPD sent an ambulance, engine and rescue squad to the scene with several chiefs also on scene. A Richmond engine crew was moved up to the scene from Change of Quarters at about 6:15 a.m.
Power was shut off by 6:22 a.m. and firefighter/paramedics made entrance to the car. The teen patient was removed from the vehicle and transferred to the ambulance by about 6:44 a.m. Flight for Life as unable to fly because of low ceiling weather conditions.
Wonder Lake FPD firefighter/paramedics from Ambulance 1652 transported a male teen to Level 2 Trauma Centegra Hospital McHenry formerly known as Northern Illinois Medical Center “NIMC”, where he remained in serious but “stable” condition Monday morning.
McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies determined a 14-year-old boy crashed a Dodge Magnum SXT AWD wagon that was allegedly stolen from a family member early Saturday in Wonder Lake, according to police.
McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies say the 14-year-old boy took the relative’s 2007 Dodge Magnum SXT without permission, and was driving the vehicle when it crashed. The vehicle was southbound in the block of 2500 East Wonder Lake Road at 5:37 a.m. when the SUV left the road, struck a utility pole and rolled over several times
McHenry County sheriff’s office reported speed and “lack of driver experience” were thought to be factors that contributed to the crash. The teen was not wearing a seat belt. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating.
