Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Beach Park and Zion firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:10 p.m. Sunday July 23, 2017 to a report of a bicyclist hit by a vehicle at West Everett Street and Cornell Road, Beach Park.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 30 year-old man of Beach Park, was traveling westbound on Everett Street. An 8-year-old female from Zion was riding her bicycle in the roadway when she was hit. The Chevrolet and bicyclist collided and the girl was thrown from the bicycle.
The girl was transported by Beach Park Ambulance 1243’s paramedics crew to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was admitted with critical injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. Cornell Road is regulated by a Yield sign, and the intersection involves two residential side streets.
