Lake Bluff police responded about 4:49 AM Thursday July 6, 2017 to a report of a burglary in progress in the block of 800 Carlyle Circle Lake Bluff, IL. Police received a report that a resident woke up when a burglar was in his house. Police responded immediately and upon arrival saw a red Mitsubishi Mirage with Wisconsin plates flee the scene at high speeds. The Mitsubishi was last seen northbound on Green Bay Road in North Chicago.
Police report the burglar apparently entered the home through an open window or an unlocked rear door. After the homeowner confronted the intruder, the offender, who took cash from the residence, fled out the rear door. The house is located in a low visibility neighborhood of large lots with dense bushes and trees.
The suspect was described as a male/black in his 20’s 5’6″ to 5’9″ 140 LBS. The offender did not display a weapon, and no injuries were reported.
“We typically do not see people enter homes, but in this case it appears the home was selected due to the open windows and doors. We want to remind residents to keep cars and homes locked, and windows closed. With the increase in property crimes through the Chicago area, we have to remain more vigilant.”
— Lake Bluff Police Chief David Belmonte
Lake Bluff Police Chief David Belmonte said the department is increasing overnight patrols and will continue to share information and map trends with neighboring police departments.
Belmonte said police are investigating and ask anyone with information about the burglary to contact the Lake Bluff Police Department at 847-234-2151.
