VIDEO: House Fire on Etowah Avenue Prospect Heights.
Prospect Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:05 PM Thursday to report of a house fire on Etowah Avenue just north of Nawata Place.
Firefighters on arrival reported fire showing through windows on a 2-story split level home. A Prospect Heights police officer on arrival — before the firefighters arrived — evacuated the house just to the north of the house fire as the flames were shooting toward that home.
The fire spread quickly inside the house with the heavy damage from a middle landing bedroom area to the second floor, and then quickly flames shot out the windows.
Prospect Heights firefighters quickly knocked down most of the fire and called for a working fire response, which brought firefighters from Arlington Heights, Wheeling, Mount Prospect, Long Grove, Northbrook, and Elk Grove Township.
Schoenbeck Road was blocked during firefighter operations as a hose need to be connected to a hydrant near MacArthur Junior High. There are no fire hydrants in the neighborhood where the house fire occurred.
The fire apparently started from a candle inside a teen’s bedroom, and spread quickly. One resident suffered an apparently minor burn injury to his hand.
