Des Plaines and Mount Prospect firefighter/paramedics and police responded about 9:33 a.m. Tuesday to northbound River Road just south of Central Road near All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines to a report of a crash with injuries.
Firefighter/paramedics on arrival discovered one man with life-threatening injuries, and immediately worked on Advanced Life Support with an AED.
The driver of a Jeep, Delight Lebel, 77, was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with injuries that were apparently non-life-threatening. The driver of a Mercedes S430, Belal Tebakhi as transported with Advanced Life Support to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead.
Police reported that Belal Tebakhi, 41, of Mount Prospect was driving his Mercedes S430 southbound on River Road about 9:30 a.m., when the female driver of the Jeep attempted to turn left into the All Saints Cemetery in the 500 block of North River Road.
Lebel, of Rosemont, remains in the hospital, where she’s being treated for injuries not considered to be life-threatening, police said.
The River Road was closed south of Central Road for several hours while police worked a crash investigation. Investigators determined Tebakhi was not wearing his seat belt, police said.
Lebel was issued a citation for failure to yield turning left, according to Des Plaines police. Her first court date is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Cook County courthouse in Skokie.
