Authorities have found a missing college student’s car in a retention pond along Interstate 57 near Bourbonnais, and an unidentified body was inside the vehicle. CBS 2’s Sandra Torres reports.
The family of Sheila Khalili extended their gratitude to law enforcement officers who searched for their daughter, and to media agencies that shared description messages and updates, and requested their privacy via a statement read by their attorney Tom Glasgow today.
Following the reading of the family’s statement, Glasgow answer questions from media.
Missing Olivet Nazarene University Student’s Car Found in Pond, Body Inside …
There was indication that Sheila Khalili’s car crossed lanes before it reached the pond, which meant she was traveling southbound and crossed the northbound lanes of I-57 before entering the pond. CBS Chicago also showed in a video report that there were tire marks in the grassy median from the southbound lanes of I-57 to the northbound lanes, and into the pond where the vehicle was discovered. There was also indication that the car hit a tree before entering the pond.
After the devastating news, the family has headed to the Kankakee area, where they will be deciding whether they will visually identify the body, or leave the identification up to DNA forensics.
