Bartlett police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:25 p.m. Friday April 7, 2017 to a head-on crash on Route 59 (Sutton Road) near West Bartlett Road. The fatal head-on crash in Bartlett seriously injured three other people.
The collision involved a gray Chevy S-10 pickup truck with a driver and two passengers inside and a large white box truck with only the driver inside.
The pickup truck was southbound on Route 59 near West Bartlett Road before it apparently crossed the centerline and struck the northbound box truck head-on, police say. Some witnesses have reported on social media that the driver that crossed the centerline swerved to avoid another vehicle that made a left turn in front of the S-10 pickup truck.
The teenage passenger in the back seat of the pickup truck was transported to St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates and pronounced dead there.
A helicopter transported the driver of the S-10 pickup truck to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, while another S-10 pickup truck passenger was transported by ambulance to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
The driver of the box truck was transported to St. Alexius Hospital with serious injuries.
The names of the victims were not released Friday.
The crash is under investigation. Route 59 and Bartlett Road were closed in both directions until about 7:50 p.m.
