Piotr Rog, the 25-year-old driver of the Mercedes Benz that on February 16, 2017 just before 9:00 p.m. crashed violently into a car in front of the Lattof YMCA killing three members of an Arlington Heights family. Piotr Rog, who was also killed, was driving at almost three times the legal driving limit in Illinois.
Thursday, April 20, 2017, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office released the results of Piotr Rog’s toxicology report, which showed that Piotr Rog’s blood alcohol content at the time of the fatal crash on Northwest Highway east of Mount Prospect Road was .216, which is almost three times the blood alcohol content level of .08 (the Illinois legal drunk limit criteria is .08).
Piotr Rog was a Des Plaines resident and a graduate of Maine West High School with numerous speeding violations on his record prior to the crash.
Last Wednesday, April 12, 2017, police revealed that Piotr Rog was traveling about 135 mph when his Mercedes sedan crashed head-on with a Chevy Impala Driven by Kevin Crawford of Arlington Heights. All occupants of the Chevy Impala were killed. Kevin Crawford, his wife Anita Crawford, and his daughter Kirsten Crawford were killed by Rog’s driving. Kevin Crawford died in the ambulance immediately after he was extricated by firefighter/paramedics about 9:16 p.m. Anita Crawford died at Northwest Community Hospital. Kirsten Crawford died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital during a CT Scan. The Arlington Heights family was traveling to a soccer game at the nearby Lattof YMCA, and was turning left into the west driveway of the parking lot of the Lattof YMCA when the impact occurred.
A passenger in Piotr Rog’s car was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, suffering a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
Des Plaines police also reported last week that Mercedes Benz refused to help police crash investigators access information from the Event Data Recorder (EDR) in Piotr Rog’s Mercedes sedan.
