Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:25 PM Tuesday, April 25, 2017 to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle with injuries at Hintz Road and Sherwood Drive Wheeling, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics initially received a report that pedestrian was hit by a vehicle at Hintz Road and Elmhurst Road.
Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived to discover a boy was hit by a compact car in the crosswalk.
Westbound Hintz Road was immediately blocked off at the intersection.
A male, age 12, transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The compact car was westbound on Hintz Road, driven by a 17-year-old male.
A crash also occurred earlier at Hintz Road and Schoenbeck Road that involved a pedestrian/bicyclist. The crash, that occurred about 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, also knocked over a light pole. The pedestrian/bicyclist initially refused medical assistance, but paramedics were on the scene. It is unknown if the pedestrian/bicyclist was transported to a hospital.
Westbound Hintz Road was closed for an extended accident investigation, and Wheeling Police Department’s major crash unit was investigating the crash.
Initially, no charges or citations were filed against the drive.
