The Arlington Heights Police Department and area police departments are mourning the loss of K-9 Layka who was medically retired last March 2017. Beloved Layka received her final salute at the Arlington Heights Animal Hospital on Algonguin Road before being euthanized at about 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017. Layka’s partner Arlington Heights Police Officer Kevin Sullivan comforted Layka and spent final precious moments with Layka with the support of area K-9 officers (handlers) and their K-9s, one as far as Forest Park. Layka served with the Arlington Heights Police Department and Officer Kevin Sullivan for almost ten years.
On March 20, 2017, Arlington Heights Police K-9 Layka was officially retired while her partner Officer Kevin Sullivan (truly one of Arlington’s finest) was at her side at an Arlington Heights Village Board Meeting. Layka was retired after being diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Also attending the retirement ceremony were police officers and K-9’s from Bolingbrook Police Department, Rolling Meadows Police Department, Hoffman Estates Police Department, Elk Grove Police Department, Palatine Police Department, Northbrook Police Department, and Schaumburg Police Department.
