TWO DRIVERS CRITICALLY INJURED
Woodstock police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:28 AM Tuesday to a report of crash with injuries at Route 14 and Hartland Road/Hughes Road Woodstock, Il. McHenry County Sheriff deputies on arrival reported two people trapped in a crash involving a rolled over semi-trailer truck and a rolled over minivan. A woman was trapped in a minivan, and a man was trapped in a crash semi-trailer truck that rolled on its side.
Ambulance 451’s crew on arrival reported a semi-trailer truck on its side, and a minivan on its side by 3:37 a.m.
Chief 400 requested Harvard’s squad to respond to the scene.
Chief 400 requested a General Alarm, and requested Engine 433 to respond to the scene. Chief 400 also requested two helicopters to responde to the scene by 3:43 a.m.
Chief 400 requested change of quarters engine from Huntley and an ambulance from Crystal Lake by 3:43 a.m.
Flight for Life helicopters were unable to respond due to bad weather conditions.
A female was patient extricated from a 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan at 4:25 a.m.
A third ambulance was requested to the scene for a firefighter with an injured back at 4:26 a.m. — Crystal Lake Ambulance 351 was assigned.
A male patient was extricated from a 2009 Volvo semi-trailer truck at 5:11 a.m.
The female patient and driver of the minivan, Cathleen Holtz, of Richmond, Illinois, was transported to Centegra-McHenry hospital with serious injuries. Later on Tuesday she was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The male patient and driver of the Volvo truck, Gerald Grapenthien, of Arlington Heights, was transported to Centegra-McHenry hospital with serious injuries.
There was no hazmat cargo aboard the semi-trailer truck.
US 14 was closed in both directions for an extended accident investigation and cleanup operation until about 9:30 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed the Dodge failed to yield right of way from the stop sign, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
