Several people reported smoke in the northwest suburbs starting about 1:45 p.m. Saturday. One caller was as far away as Dempster Street near Shermer Road in Morton Grove. The caller in Morton Grove reported seeing smoke to the west. Smoke that was likely from a controlled burn near Golf Road and Route 53 was about 10 miles west of the Morton Grove location. Prescribed burns or controlled burns have been ongoing in this area since February, especially with the lack of snow cover.
One person sent in photos to Facebook.com/ArlingtonHeightsCrime and inquired about the smoke behind Meijer at Golf Road and Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows. Another person reported from a location near downtown Arlington Heights, describing the smoke rising just south of the military base near Central Road and New Wilke Road.
Morton Grove Engine 5’s crew dispatched to check for smoke in the area reported residual smoke from a header “pretty far west.”
