Illinois State Police responded about 4:54 PM Thursday to a report of Unlawful Use of Weapon southbound I-90 at Kennedy Expressway and Diversey Chicago, IL. Police received a report that shots were fired vertically in the air on I-90 southbound near Diversey at 4:54 p.m. Shots were allegedly fired by the driver of a dark gray or blue Volkswagen Passat. The driver allegedly displayed a gun outside the car window and discharged the gun vertically.
The vehicle was reported as “last seen” southbound at Armitage Avenue.
The vehicle was also seen on I-90 southbound at Monroe Street approaching Congress Parkway by 5:07 p.m.
The vehicle was spotted eastbound on Congress Parkway, and an updated report stated that there were children in the back seat of the vehicle.
Police stopped the vehicle at Franklin Street and Van Buren Street by 5:14 p.m. The suspect was reported in custody at that time at the location about one block north of Congress Parkway.
Illinois State Police and Chicago Police are on the scene investigating.
