Chicago police and Chicago firefighters and paramedics responded to Van Buren Street and Canal Street about 8:45 p.m. after an Amtrak police officer shot a man.
Police said the Amtrak officer confronted two suspects near Van Buren and Canal streets, about one block south of Union Station. The Amtrak police officer opened fire after one of the two men appeared to reach for a weapon.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics transported the injured man to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound early Thursday.
Chicago police are investigating the shooting, but initially are referring all questions to Amtrak. Neither agency is confirming any details about the shooting.
