CNN: The White House has strongly suggested that Donald Trump was the beneficiary of Russian meddling in the US election.
Josh Earnest said today that during the presidential campaign, candidate Donald Trump called on Russia to hack his opponent Hillary Clinton. In fact, Trump sarcastically called on Russia to find Hillary Clinton’s missing emails that were presumably already hacked. Trump’s comment in context was hinting at irony that Russia has such little respect for our country that they would hack into a major party and “get everything.”
Watch and listen to the actual comment that White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was misleadingly referencing below (from C-SPAN).
“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you’ll be rewarded mightily by our press. Let’s see if that happens …”
