UPDATE: Firefighters found one person inside a commercial building with an apartment during a search. A second person managed to get out of the building before firefighters arrived, and was helped by Des Plaines police. Both fire victims were treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Four cats and a dog were rescued from the building and several others animals left the building on their own. Unfortunately, several other cats remained trapped inside and died in the smoke and fire.

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:34 AM Friday to a report of crash with injuries at 1629 East Oakton Street Des Plaines, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire at a hair care business.
Police on scene reported heavy smoke with one occupant with some pets evacuating by 7:36 a.m..
Engine 62 crew on arrival reported heavy fire in a 25×75 commercial structure with heavy fire in the rear. Engine 62’s crew took the hydrant at Linden and Oakton.
There was a report of possibly one person trapped at 7:40 a.m.
Crews entered the front side of the building at 7:41 a.m. but were concerned about being blocked by the fire at the rear of the business.

Police were helping a fire victim that was in the burning building at Oakton Street and White Street by 7:47 a.m. Wheeling Fire Department Ambulance 23 was assigned to meet that person. Patient contact was reported by 7:55 a.m.
Fire was declared out by 7:50 a.m. There was no confirmation on injuries or transports early this morning, but possibly two people were transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
