Woman dies, son lives during house fire in Palatine on Slade Street near Rose Street.
Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:51 PM Thursday, November 10, 2016 to a report of a house fire at 308 West Slade Street Palatine, Il. A next-door neighbor reported the fire.
The first crew on arrival reported nothing showing by 6:56 p.m. Smoke was discovered inside. A police officer helped a male resident down the front stairs while firefighters masked up with SCBA breathing apparatus.
Police reported that someone might still be inside after the male resident advised his mother was still inside. Police weren’t able to make entry in the smoke-filled home.
One victim was in the front yard by 6:57 p.m.
A firefighter crew reported no fire in the basement by 7:02 p.m.
Firefighters called for a drug box and a heart monitor — needed at the front yard.
A female victim was possibly also brought out the back of the house by Engine’s 84 crew by 7:06 p.m.
EMS called to the front by 7:06 p.m. CPR underway.
Quint 83’s crew was working the hose line inside the house, and the fire was declared under control by 7:11 p.m.
Engine 82’s crew was in the basement doing a secondary search by 7:16 p.m.
Ambulance 84’s crew was in the kitchen doing a primary search by 7:16 p.m.
Firefighters confirmed a 40 year-old man was rescued and a 77 year-old woman was rescued from the house. The man was the woman’s son. Firefighters also worked to confirm that no other residents were inside the house.
