Romeoville police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:30 PM Tuesday to a report of a natural gas explosion and fire at two townhouse units at Wespark Boulevard and Strawflower Court Romeoville, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a natural gas explosion and fire with entrapment involving two townhouses.
The explosion occurred while Nicor workers were repairing a gas leak. Nicor workers had been on the scene at least since about 3:00 p.m.
One Nicor worker was seriously injured, and one Nicor worker had apparent minor injuries after the blast.
Two townhouse units were destroyed.
A gas leak continued to flow late Tuesday.
Residents were not home at the time of the explosion.
A similar explosion occurred — possibly at the same building lot — in 1999.
