Local Archadeck Owner Explains Deck and Pool that Won Archadeck Outdoor Living’s Design Award

Palatine local David Berryhill has been building and remodeling homeowners’ dream decks for the past 12 years as the owner of Archadeck of Chicagoland. Prior to opening an Archadeck, Berryhill first took an interest in outdoor living design and landscaping in 2004 when he began design classes at the Morton Arboretum. At that time, he was working as the director of sales and marketing for a local manufacturer of small adhesives, and outdoor design was simply a side passion.

“After completing the courses at Morton Arboretum, I was equipped with the tools to turn my side passion into a full-time career,” said Berryhill. “I was able to capitalize on my experience with renting and remodeling property as weekend and evening projects and apply that to owning an Archadeck franchise.”

After researching opportunities online, Berryhill and his wife, Kirsten, decided that the homeowners in the Chicago suburbs could use the services from Archadeck to create their ideal outdoor living spaces from decks to poolside entertaining areas.

“I love looking at outdoor spaces and imagining how I can transform them into a paradise that clients used to think they could only dream of,” said Berryhill. “It’s awesome to bring that dream to life in their own backyard.”

Recently, Berryhill was awarded a national award by Archadeck. After completing a design in 2015 with low-maintenance, durable TimberTech Terrain Collection decking and RadianceRail® materials, Berryhill’s Archadeck of Chicagoland won the Archadeck Outdoor Living’s Design Award in the Deck category.

“We were just so thrilled to learn that we won this award from Archadeck,” Berryhill said. “It means a great deal when we are recognized for the hard work put into our deck building projects.”
The winning design included a renovated, new deck space, as well as the addition of a pool. The new deck used a frame that was already in-place, and Berryhill’s team replaced the deteriorated and dilapidated wood with new, premium TimberTech decking materials. The decking is great for homeowners because it not only lasts longer than traditional wood, but it also comes with many great benefits. TimberTech decking stands up to harsh weather; resists stains, scratches, fading, mold, mildew, and moisture damage, and comes with 25-year fade-and-stain and 25-year limited warranties.

“A big part of the project was adding the pool to the deck,” Berryhill said. “The project was completed with the installation of the composite TimberTech material which really solidified a clean-cut look.”

While the award is not his first, it is definitely one Berryhill is extremely proud of. He feels that the Brown Oak TimberTech Terrain Collection decking with the white TimberTech RadianceRail® made for a contrast that provided a cutting-edge design and helped him win the award.

“It’s right up there with some of the best awards Archadeck of Chicagoland has won,” said Berryhill. “It means a great deal to have received this award from the company among my peers and great deck designers.”
