Suspect Driver Fled and Crashed into House
On September 7, 2016, at approximately 3:12PM, a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Lee Hernandez, 31, of the 38000 block of North Cornell Road, Beach Park. Hernandez was driving a 2004 Lincoln SUV northbound on McAree Road at Grand Avenue, Waukegan. The sheriff’s deputy was attempting the traffic stop, as he was aware Hernandez’ driving privileges were revoked and Hernandez had an active arrest warrant.
The sheriff’s deputy activated his emergency lights to conduct the traffic stop. Hernandez initially slowed, but then accelerated at a high rate of speed. Hernandez committed numerous traffic violations then turned eastbound onto Glen Flora Avenue. By the time the sheriff’s deputy made the same turn, Hernandez’ vehicle was out of sight. The sheriff’s deputy began checking the area for Hernandez’ vehicle and found it crashed into a house in the 1900 block of Glen Flora Avenue. The house was occupied, however, nobody inside the residence was injured.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies approached the Lincoln SUV and discovered Hernandez and his front seat passenger, Aliyah J. Massari, 21, of the 6400 block of 11th Ave, Kenosha, WI, both fled from the vehicle, as it was unoccupied.
Waukegan Police Officers responded and assisted in the search for Hernandez and Massari. A short time later, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies located both Hernandez and Massari walking in the area. Both were transported to Vista East Hospital, where they were treated and released back into police custody.
Lee Hernandez was subsequently charged with:
Four (4) Counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (Class 4 Felonies)
Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash (Class A Misdemeanor)
Failure to Give Information after a Traffic Crash (Class A Misdemeanor)
Attempted Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor)
Numerous Traffic Citations
Aliyah J. Massari was charged with:
Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 Felony)
Two (2) Counts of Identity Theft (Class 3 Felonies)
Two (2) Counts of Forgery (Class 3 Felonies)
Three (3) Counts of Unlawful Possession of another’s Credit Card (Class 4 Felonies)
Hernandez is being held at the Lake County Jail on $100,000.00 bail. His next court date is September, 26, 2016, at 1:30PM, in courtroom C-120.
Massari is also being held at the Lake County Jail on $100,000.00 bail. Her next court date is September, 29, 2016, at 1:30PM, in courtroom C-120.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
