The touch-up job inside the U.S. Capitol dome is now complete. The great rotunda reopened Tuesday after a 13-month, $97-million renovation. Scott Pelley reports.
The 2014-2016 Capitol dome restoration project is the most recent work since 1959–1960. The completion goal was scheduled before the 2017 presidential inauguration, and work has been completed. Reparation fixed deterioration, including at least 1,300 cracks in brittle iron that caused seepage inside and rust formation.
