Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:50 PM Wednesday September 28, 2016 to a report of crash into the Jimmy John’s business at Mount Prospect Plaza shopping center, 1220 East Central Road Mount Prospect, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car crashed into Jimmy John’s with a female driver still inside the vehicle.
The female driver of the vehicle was apparently not seriously injured. A source reported that the driver accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes, which caused the crash.
There was report of a gas leak associated with the crash, but no gas leak occurred. A lot of glass was broken at the scene, but the Mount Prospect Building Department checked the building and determined there was no structural damage.
Firefighters on the scene may have immediately shut off the gas utility to the building, but if there was a gas shut off it was temporary.
All utilities are 100 percent functional and Jimmy John’s is expected to be open normal hours again starting Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 100 percent capacity.
