Des Plaines police and firefighters responded about noon Thursday to the neighborhood of Rose Avenue, 1st Avenue, Thacker Street and 4th Avenue. The neighborhood has been in lockdown since about 1:30 p.m. as police responded to a psychiatric emergency.
Witnesses reported SWAT type vehicles arriving in the area about 1:30 p.m. with police wearing tactical gear and carrying long guns.
A second ambulance and a Battalion Chief were requested to the scene at about 5:16 p.m. Paramedics met a patient on 1st Avenue near Schimka Auto Wreckers.
One patient was transported to Lutheran General Hospital about 5:30 p.m.
Police had not responded to media requests for information, and there are no updates on the Des Plaines Police Department’s official Twitter account as of 5:40 p.m.
