You might have seen a large truck convoy this Saturday morning, August 27, 2016 along Route 59, I-90 and Route 47. The World’s Largest Truck Convoy is a fundraising and awareness event that creates a unique partnership between law enforcement and truckers to raise funds for Special Olympics so they can continue to train in year-round sports activities. Police officers involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics have made the WLTC one of their many annual signature events. Law enforcement and truckers throughout the United States and Canada will join forces in the fall to hold the World’s Largest Truck Convoy (WLTC).
The convoy began moving at 10:00 a.m. at Sears Center (5333 Prairie Stone Pkwy) in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Law enforcement officers escorted the Convoy approximately 30 miles along Route 59/90 West to Interstate 90 and Route 47 before returning to the starting location. Hillside Towing of Arlington Heights participated and saved some gas for some Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, and Palatine police squads. Their vehicles were hauled on Hillside flatbed tow trucks for the convoy.
