Regarding viewing videos in your Facebook timeline, you can adjust your auto-play settings to On, Wi-Fi only or Off.
If auto-play is On, videos will auto-play using a mobile data connection. The data used depends on the amount of time you spend watching a video. If you scroll past an auto-play video in News Feed, your phone will use less data than if you stop to watch it for a longer period of time.
If auto-play is Wi-Fi only, videos will auto-play only when your phone or tablet is connected to Wi-Fi. If you’re using Facebook on a mobile data connection, you’ll have to click on a video to play it. If you click and play a video while using a mobile data connection, it will use mobile data.
Note: You might need to click a video to play it even if your auto-play settings are On. This could happen if the mobile connection is slow or if you’ve used a large amount of mobile data recently.
The Cardinal tries to warn readers when a large video is published — usually longer than about 8 minutes — so that readers can be cautious with their mobile data usage.
