The Zion Police Department and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force have arrested Bernardino Giustino, age 21, in the murder of Nathaniel Lang, age 20, of Zion. Zion police and firefighter/paramedics responded to a report of a man that walked into the Mobil gas station suffering a seizure about 6:17 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016. Immediately after 6:17 pm police were updated that the man was believed to have been shot. Police upon arrival, discovered Lang unresponsive with no respirations with a stab wound to the chest. The victim did not have any gunshot wounds. Lang was transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan by Zion Fire-Rescue, and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police had received that a possible offender fled on a bicycle eastbound on Shiloh Boulevard. Police had a person of interest in the stabbing homicide during the early hours Tuesday.
The murder is believed to have taken place at the Mobil Gas Station, 2500 Sheridan Road near Shiloh Boulevard. Bernardino Giustino has been charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the stabbing death. Giustino was taken for a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon afternoon. Bond was set at $2,000,000.
The investigation revealed that the victim and the alleged offender knew each other and engaged in an argument over drugs while at the Mobil Gas Station. Police report, Giustino allegedly left, returned with a knife, and confronted the victim before fatally stabbing him.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force and the Zion Police Department are investigating the homicide.
