ABC News and CNN reported Thursday that Trump had called Pence and offered him the vice presidential slot on his ticket, and that Pence has accepted.
As governor of Indiana, Pence faced major political backlash over his decision to sign into law a “religious freedom” measure that angered major businesses that saw it as anti-LGBT.
Also as Governor of Illinois, Pence had endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz over Trump before Indiana’s crucial early May primary. Trump won the Indiana, which sealed the contest for Trump as the presumptive nominee and knocked Cruz out of the race.
