Austin police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:17 a.m. CDT Sunday to a report of an active shooter incident at 208 East 6th Street. Five people suffered gunshot winds — a woman in her 20s or 30s, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Three women in their 30s were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge and one woman refused medical care. The shooter was at large early Sunday and police are shooting for the shooter.
About 2:24 a.m. Austin police responded to a shots fired incident in a parking garage nearby in the block of 800 Trinity Street. The incident was determined to be unrelated to the first shooting incident. Police said an individual pulled out a weapon and shot at another individual. There were witnesses in the parking that stopped the shooter. The shooter was transported in custody to the hospital because of injuries sustained when he was stopped in the parking garage by citizens.
Both incident sites were secured in a short time.
Austin-Travis County EMS evaluated a total of 6 patients, including one female who was killed, 3 women with gunshot wounds, one person who refused medical treatment, and one person who is believed to be the male suspect in the second unrelated incident.
