Sports Authority is alerting customers that existing gift cards will be honored through June 28, 2016. After June 28, 2016 customers will not be able to use any gift cards at stores or online. Gift cards are no longer available for sale from Sports Authority.
Englewood, Colorado-based Sports Authority will close all 460 of its stores, with clearance sales running through the summer season. The company started discounting shoes, clothing and other goods the last week of May, and expect sales and inventory to last until the end of August 2016.
The company told the bankruptcy court that it plans to sell its store leases in an upcoming auction.
About 14,500 Sports Authority employees will eventually lose their jobs since the store announced their plan to close all stores.
