Waukegan police yesterday released surveillance video of an armed robbery at a gas station that occurred about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Waukegan police responded to the gas station to reports of a shooting. Police say two victims were getting gas Grand Avenue and Jackson Street about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when the crime occurred.
Police say the suspect attempted to hit one of the victims with his gun when it fired, striking one victim in the shoulder. The other person attempted to stop the suspect from leaving and was struck in the head with the gun.
The shooting victim was transported to an unspecified hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The second victim was treated and released at the scene by paramedics.
The offender was described as a black male with a thin build and with facial hair, who fled on foot.
Police urge citizens, who may recognize the suspect in the surveillance video or have any information about this armed robbery, to call the Waukegan Police Department tip line at 847-360-9001.
Later Wednesday, at 10:15 p.m., Waukegan police responded to a report of an armed vehicular hijacking at Ash Street and Porter Street about 0.3 mile or one long block from the armed robbery scene.
