Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Newport Township firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 to a report of a car vs motorcycle crash at North Delany Road and Wadsworth Road, in Wadsworth. Upon arrival sheriff’s deputies located a 2014 Harley Davidson Motorcycle and a 2005 Toyota Corolla involved in a collision. The driver of the motorcycle suffered critical injuries.
Preliminary investigation, which included witness statements, revealed the driver of the Toyota was traveling southbound on Delany Road, through the intersection. The driver of the Harley Davidson was traveling westbound on Wadsworth Road, and disobeyed a red traffic signal. The Harley Davidson struck the Toyota in the intersection, which caused the driver of the motorcycle to be tossed from the motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, where was listed in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the Toyota was transported to Vista East Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.
The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
