Rollover Crash into Tree with Serious Injuries on Higgins Rd Between Arlington Heights Rd & Route 53, Elk Grove Village

VIDEO: Extrication and Flight for Life on Higgins Road between Route 53 and Arlington Heights Road.

Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:52 AM Wednesday to a report of a crash with injuries on Higgins Road west of Arlington Heights Road. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a black Subaru left the roadway and crashed into a tree on the south side of the eastbound lanes of Higgins Road (Route 72). Rescuers discovered the crash on Higgins Road about halfway between Route 53 and Arlington Heights Road.

The Subaru was flipped on it side with very severe damage with severe intrusion on the passenger side. Extrication was prolonged — taking about one hour. The patient was extricated at about 7:57 pm. No other people were injured in the crash.

The patient was transferred by Elk Grove Village Ambulance 10’s crew to the landing zone and Flight for Life helicopter located on the north side of Higgins Road west of the cash scene. Some extra patient care occurred at the landing zone. Flight for Life lifted off about 8:20 a.m. and transported the patient to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Traffic was blocked in both directions of Higgins Road for over an hour. Traffic in both directions was opened about 8:30 a.m.

Arlington Heights Rescue Squad 1’s crew worked with Elk Grove Village firefighter/paramedics on the extrication operation.

Illinois State Police, Cook County Sheriff, Cook County Forest Preserve Police, Schaumburg Police and Elk Grove Village Police were all on the scene. Illinois State Police is likely the lead investigating police agency on the crash on a state route through a forest preserve (not confirmed).
