On May 19, 2016 the FBI added Luis Macedo — whose last known address was the 6200 block of West 90th Place in Oak Lawn, Illinois — to the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List. A $100,000 reward has been announced for information leading to his arrest.
Luis Macedo is considered to be armed and extremely dangerous. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5-feet-5-inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Macedo, 28, was born on March 2, 1988, and uses several aliases, including “Ye-Ye,” Luis Macebo, Luis M. Macedo, Louis Macedo, Louis M. Macedo, Luis M. Maczdo and Luis M. Mercado.
Luis Macedo, a Latin Kings street gang member from Chicago, is wanted for the murder of a 15-year-old boy on May 1, 2009. Macedo led a group of Latin King gang members who beat the victim with a baseball bat, shot him, and then set his body on fire in the 3000 block of West 54th Street.
Macedo was 21-years-old and had already been an active gang member since he was a young teen, when he killed Alex Arellano, according to the FBI.
Macedo was in charge of the street crew that attacked 15-year-old Alex Arellano, who was in the neighborhood visiting his girlfriend. Alex Arellano was not a rival gang member. He is reported to have ordered the killing.
A reward of up to $100,000 is available for information leading directly to the arrest of new FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitive, Luis Macedo.
“The murder was classic mob mentality,” said Patrick Johnson, a Chicago Police Department detective who is a member of the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force in Chicago and who has been working to locate Macedo.
Macedo and four of his accomplices were identified in weeks following the killing. The other four gang members were arrested and were either convicted at trial or pleaded guilty to the crime and are serving prison sentences. Macedo remains a fugitive.
Luis Macedo was charged on July 21, 2009 with one count of first degree murder by the Cook County State’s Attorney. A federal warrant was issued for Macedo’s arrest on May 27, 2010 for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
“Over the years, we’ve had unconfirmed reports about him (Macedo) being in Florida and possibly in Mexico,” Johnson said. “He also has family in Wisconsin and Indiana, but the trail has gone cold. We are hoping this substantial reward announced today will bring someone forward.”
The FBI and Chicago Police Department report that Macedo has not been seen in the Chicago area since the attack. Macedo is believed to be in the southeast United States or Mexico.
Luis Macedo’s addition to the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List marks the 507th addition to the FBI’s infamous list of rogues, murderers and robbers.
