Police Call Out NIPAS Emergency Rescue Team for Potential Barricade Situation at House 1 Block from South Middle School on Highland Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:11 AM Saturday to a report from a friend that a woman was threatening to harm herself in the block of 200 South Highland Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a woman received text messages from a woman at the Arlington Heights residence. The messages mentioned the possibility of harming herself and that a gun was in the home.

Police and firefighter/paramedics immediately responded but when the woman did not respond to police at the door, the incident was elevated to a possibly barricade situation.

Police activated a Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) response, which included at least 30 armed tactical officers and two armored rescue vehicles, known as Bearcat.s The vehicles are capable of safely getting up close to an armed person, and are also capable of evacuating neighbors, if needed.

The extra police presence with tactical officers was staged at the front of South Middle School one block north of the incident. Police agencies involved in mutual aid arrived from Barrington Hills, Des Plaines, North Riverside, Northbrook, Streamwood, Wilmette and other police agencies.

Highland Avenue was closed down between George Street and South Street.

The woman peacefully came out of the house on the east side Highland Avenue about 1:15 p.m. The was transferred to an Arlington Heights Fire Department ambulance that was standing by, and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital.
