President Obama said Friday that Donald Trump doesn’t understand foreign policy or the world in general, and U.S. allies are increasingly concerned about the Republican front-runner’s loose rhetoric about nuclear weapons.
“People pay attention to American elections. What we do is really important to the rest of the world.”
— Barack Obama at a news conference following the bi-annual Nuclear Security Summit in Washington
Critics of the Obama administration have said that his policies have weakened the military and caused concern that the United States is incapable of support in a crisis or military conflict. Critics cite the crisis in Syria and the failure to respond to Syria’s use of chemical weapons on its own people; and the rapid rise of ISIS after Obama called the terrorist group “Junior Varsity” shortly before ISIS rose to significant presence in the Middle East and Europe.
Obama has declined to say whether he voted for Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders in the recent Illinois Democratic primary.
Carson says Trump is the best of the "people who are running" for president.
