On April 17, 2016, at approximately 6:50 PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of Fox River Road and Hickory Nut Grove Road, in Unincorporated Cary, for a single-vehicle traffic crash with injuries. Upon the arrival of deputies, they found a 49 year-old man, of Cary, was involved in a motorized mini-bike crash, with serious injuries.
Preliminary investigation showed the driver of the mini-bike was traveling westbound on Fox River Road, east of Hickory Nut Grove Road. According to a witness, the man took one of his hands off the handlebars and lost control of the minibike. He was ejected from the minibike and struck his head on the pavement. The driver was not wearing a helmet. A Flight for Life medical helicopter landed at a temporary landing zone at Cary Junior High School, 2109 Crystal Lake Road, Cary, just northwest of the the crash scene. The man was transported via the Flight for Life helicopter to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears alcohol played a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
