Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:09 PM Friday to a report of a car carrier truck crash with a railroad bridge and a fire at 1050 Northwest Highway Des Plaines, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car carrier truck hit a railroad bridge and that one car was on fire. No injuries were reported.

The truck was westbound on Northwest Highway when a top car on the trailer hit the bridge. The was then dragged on top of two other cars. The crash damaged the trailer and wedged some car parts into the overpass.
Firefighters on arrival reported that a dry chemical fire extinguisher was used, and there was no fire upon their arrival.
Firefighters reported one vehicle was knocked down to the ground.
Northwest Highway was shut down in both directions until about 11:20 a.m.
Outbound Metra Train #103 was stopped until the bridge was checked for structural safety.
The truck driver was cited with operating an over-height vehicle.
