At least 4 people are dead and 17 injured after a workplace shooting at Excel Industries in Hesston, Kansas. Authorities have called in the FBI to assist in the investigation as they identified the shooter: Cedric Ford. CBS News’ Elaine Quijano has the details.
A total of 18 victims were involved in the shooting incident. Police responded about 5:00 p.m. Thursday at 12th and Meridian in Newton, Kansas as the first shooting was reported. Two vehicles were hit by gunfire and one person was shot. The offender shot out from his vehicle.
The shooter traveled down Meridian to 81 highway and continued shooting, and shot one person in the leg. A stolen vehicle was reported at that scene when the shooter stole his victim’s vehicle.
The shooter continued to Excel Industries, 200 S Ridge Road, Hesston Kansas, where he shot a person in the parking lot and then entered the Excel Industries. The offender then shot 15 people. He killed three people in the building.
Law enforcement officers shot and killed the shooter.
KBI agents are entering the Excel building to investigate the shooting. There are a number of crime scenes.
The weapon used by the offender was described as a long gun like and assault rifle with a .223 round.
